What are your initial thoughts about the concept of Literacy with ICT (LwICT)?
Great idea. Optimism abounds....I'm glad that grades 9-12 are being included, I felt left out before.. :)
What implementation barriers for LwICT do you foresee at Senior Years?
Dollars. Time. Reluctant Staff. The usual....seriously, timetabling and scheduling of staff may be important in the overall scheme of things...
What opportunities does LwICT present for Senior Years?
A continuity from K-8....(for the students)....the opportunity to see and learn exciting skill sets along with their students....the ability to 'see' tech. integration usefully and in a really relevant way.
What professional learning is required initially to prepare Senior Years teachers to begin to use the LwICT continuum?
First, the expectations of 'where are we in 3-5 years?' should be very important, and communicated as soon as possible. Continually reinforcing the idea that infusion is the goal, here we are, and how do we get to where to we want to go will be important also. Divisional and school leadership will be necessary as well. PD opportunities should be idea-based, not necessarily mechanical....although training on things like ePearl, etc. will likely be necessary and I would assume welcome...
What types of ICT are available to you in your school, but not in your classroom?
Interactive television, but that's about all. My classroom is extremely well-equipped.
What subjects and grades do you teach and how do you currently use ICT to enhance student learning?
Grades 10-12 Mathematics (any/all of Applied, Consumer, and Pre-Calculus). Currently, I use blogs, wikis, graphing calculators, laptops, a Sympodium unit, projection system, and high-speed internet as regular instructional materials. I like to think that on some level, I'm at least aware of what exists as 'cutting edge' educational technology....
